"Minimum Avatar Skills to Acquire for Second Life Acculturation"

If you just created your avatar and began exploring the in-world, here is the minimum avatar skills that you can pay close attention to acquire.

Based on: Grove & Steventon, 2008; Gollub, 2007; Ye, Liu, & Polack-Wahl, 2007; Boulous, Heatherington & Wheeler, 2007 and others.

Presenting the Self:

customizing avatar appearance, opening boxes, changing clothes, saving appearance, updating a profile, using animations, using sounds

Wayfinding:

walking, flying, teleporting, using landmarks, using camera controls, searching for places, using maps, setting a ‘home’ location, finding and using slurls

Communicating:

using text chat and IM, using voice chat, playing audio and video, making and giving a notecard, uploading and giving textures, giving and receiving objects

Managing Keepsakes:

copying chat logs, taking snapshots, making landmarks, obtaining freebies, making purchases, using and organizing inventory

Socializing:

offering friendship, offering a teleport, searching for groups, joining and leaving groups, making notes about people, culture and etiquette

Building and Creating:

creating and linking prims, applying textures, setting permissions, making machinima, scripting, terraforming, land management

Troubleshooting

adjusting environment settings, changing draw distance, accessing advanced menu and settings

WOW, Yoko,

I just went to the link your posting came from. The original pdf file is 217 pages long and has an enormous amount of amazing information in it. When we meet to get me started more into SL, what you have above will serve as a good starting point. Thanks for posting this.
