Student Travel Awards

The following awards are subject to applications and review by the funding partner for best fit their industry goals. Applications available on USAS website. http://usaquaculture.org/student-awards

These are due by Dec. 10th 2017.

Soy Aquaculture Alliance/USAS Student Travel Award

This award supports conference travel expenses for a deserving USAS student member presenting a paper related to innovation in aquaculture at the conference.

Winner will be awarded

       1.  a check for the amount of $1,000

       2.  registration reimbursement ($275 value)

       3.  a certificate of recognition

Pentair/USAS Student Travel Award

This award supports conference travel expenses for a deserving USAS graduate student member presenting research conducted in recirculating aquaculture systems.

Requirements

To be eligible for this award student must be a current USAS student member when abstract is submitted. A completed application must be sent to the VP by Dec 15, 2017. The recipient MUST attend the Aquaculture America Student Reception in order to receive the award. Students will be judged based on their essay and the research reflected in their abstract. Students with innovative technology for production systems and RAS are strongly urged to apply.

Winner will be awarded

1.      a check for the amount of $1,500

2.      registration reimbursement ($275 value)

3.      a certificate of recognition (presented at student reception)

  • A 500 word essay on the role of inovative systems in aquaculture.

Tyson/USAS Student Travel Award

This award supports conference travel expenses for a deserving USAS graduate student member presenting research conducted using sustainable rendered chicken products.

Requirements

To be eligible the individual must be a student at a University of college.  A completed application must be sent to the VP by Dec 10, 2017.  The recipient MUST attend the Aquaculture America Student Reception in order to receive the award. Students with nutrition-oriented using poultry by-product projects are strongly urged to apply.

  • A 500-word essay on the role of sustainable rendered chicken products as a substitute for fish

The RAS "Yellow Book" Undergraduate Student Travel Grant

These two awards help fund conference travel for two deserving undergraduates who demonstrate an interest and potential to contribute to the field of US aquaculture. The student must be enrolled in a two- or four-year undergraduate degree with an emphasis in aquaculture. Applicants do not have to be members of WAS or USAS, and students are not required to present a poster or a talk at the meeting

Winner receives

1.      a check in the amount of $700

2.      1-year student membership in WAS and USAS

3.      registration reimbursement ($275 value)

4.      a signed copy of the "Recirculating Aquaculture" textbook by Drs. Timmons & Ebeling.

The following two awards are reviewed by respective groups for the overall distinction of work within specific areas.

These are Due Dec. 10th, 2017

Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium's Best Student Paper Award

The MASGC Best Student Paper Award is given to a student that presents outstanding work in marine or Great Lakes research (oral presentations only).  Sea Grant will present its Best Student Paper Award to one student who will receive an award of $400 and a certificate. To be eligible for this award you must be a current USAS student member when you submit an abstract.

USAS/AFS-FCS Best Student Abstract Award

This award is designed to help support conference travel expenses for a deserving USAS/joint AFS-FCS student member presenting at the conference. A winner is awarded $500 and a certificate at the plenary session of the conference. To be eligible for this award you must be both a current USAS and FCS student member when you submit an abstract.
