An Aquaculture Community Site
Aquaculture as a future need
I want to start my first discussion to show the position of aquaculture in our days and its future as a need and as a Tunisian I will take my country as a reference to explain this future necessity.
Nowadays, aquacuture doesn't stop to take an important place as a real need and this can be explained by many causes; the first one concerns Overfishing which has a direct effect in the disbalance of the marine ecosystem especially fish stocks, due to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; taking the case of Tunisia to solve this problem, a biological recovery is applied in the Gulf of Gabes last summer after a decrease in fish production while the demand of the market doesn't stop to boost, also in all over the world fishing is central in the livelihood and food security of 200 Million people. A second cause can takes place, it concerns the Global Warming coupled to sea pollution which can be one of the most important causes which explain the necessity of aquaculture in the present as well in the future.However, one modification in any water's parameter especially temperature and salinty will affect directly marine ecosystem and by the way will modify fish and aquatic species habitat; so, to control this situation only aquaculture will support this problem by creating a favorable environment to increase the production.
To conclude, I want to show the importance of aquaculture in developping country and as my personal view point, continental aquaculture can provides for people living in those countries,where a big reserve of fresh water exists, the necessary alimentation based on fresh water fish essentially, to satisfy their needs, for example in Tunisia gouvernment doesn't stops to encourage such projects like the pisciculture of Tilapia using Geothermal water in the Southern part of the country.
